*George Town
George Town in the capital and second largest settlement in The Exumas, however with a population of only 350 persons it remains small and personal. St. Andrews Anglican Church, the oldest church in the Exumas is perched on the top of a hill overlooking Lake Victoria. Lake Victoria was named after Queen Victoria and has a four yards wide canal that leads into the sea and was once used for soaking sisal to make rope and baskets. This pond once had a phosphorus (micro lighting) which came to the surface and lit up the pond, especially on windy nights. Every year during April, Georgetown becomes alive, as Bahamians migrate here to compete in or watch the National Family Island Regatta, which is held in Elizabeth Harbour. George Town is also home to the Bahamian Music and Heritage Festival, held in March at Regatta Park.
